Emmanuel Macron nuclear statement clarified

2 min read

Back in 2017-04-17 was the last time I tried to encourage others to leverage any of my video assets. Let's try again.

This is an extremely short ( 138 second ) video helping to clarify the President of France Emmanuel Macron's statements made on 2017-12-17 regarding nuclear power and the limitation of renewables. 2016-04-05 footage of Dr. James Hansen helps to explain.

This edit, and all captioning data can be found here:

Don't be overwhelmed by the fact there is more than a single file!

Want to shuttle to Twitter? Then just download Macron for Twitter.mp4

Want to shuttle to YouTube? Any copy will do.

Want to shuttle to Facebook? Any copy will do.

If you want to be FANCY about it, and supply captioning data then grab the SRT files too... (YouTube and Facebook support SRT data) but that is NOT necessary... captions are baked-in to the video stream, so English speakers will always understand it.

Why should I share unique instances of this? (You ask?)

Because I suspect a copy that might go viral won't be one I post.

Come up with a unique title and description (if YouTube), come up with a catchy 240-char summary (if Twitter).

Why did this take so long?

A bit of time updating graphs to show up-to-date renewable deployment and German carbon emissions, but mostly was thwarted by "The French".

I did start right after 2017-12-17... right after Macron made his statements in some bizarre language people call "French". As a Canadian I did indeed learn a bit of this "French" once... and promptly forgot everything about it upon graduating from school.

My unique challenges with this video were pertaining to French, understanding exactly what was said to the point I could extract sound-bites, and create English captions that are "burned-in" using Premiere Pro... which happens to suck at captions!

This couldn't have happened without help from translating volunteers wrangled by Generation Atomic's Eric Meyer.

Dr. James Hansen footage is courtesy of Michael Shellenberger's Environmental Progress.

You will notice that the video does NOT mention any of this.

This is an UNBRANDED video.

I'm hoping everyone out there who is pro-nuclear can use it to advance their own particular avenue of communications. For example, here is Eric Meyer using it as a piece of Generation Atomic communications...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aMV0IeFXSE

https://www.facebook.com/generationatomic/videos/2222051154747492/

...I'll be approaching people who are communicating the value of nuclear power and trying to get them to leverage this video asset directly, not just re-tweeting.

You'll notice at the end (on YouTube copies) links pop-up over Shellenberger's face... there's a good solid 15 seconds at the end where the left side of the screen can be used to show clickable elements.

Feel free to do that. Feel free to use these 138 seconds as a stand-alone video or as part of any longer video. (138 seconds is exactly maximum length for Twitter as native video content.)

Call to action!

So IF you think this is a piece of useful communication, head over to the Google Drive and pull down a copy of a video file onto your own computer.

Upload it to whatever social platform(s) you actually use.

Feel free to ping me with questions if you have any. gordonmcdowell@gmail.com
