Headed to ORNL MSR Workshop & TEC 2018 in Brussels

2 min read

I'll be headed to ORNL's MSR Workshop on Oct 3rd and Oct 4th...

...and then TEC 2018 (Thorium Energy Conference) in Brussels Oct 29th to Oct 31st...

Neither of these were very locked-in for me until recently, but flights and admissions have been purchased so now that's that.

At ORNL I'm hoping to have some offline conversations regarding Fluid Fuel Reactors, the 1958 book which is still grey-market PDF and not properly available to the public. (First printed in 1958, never re-printed, never re-issued, no eBook. I've been asking ORNL & DoE about this since 2015.)

At Brussels I'll be providing additional video capture of lectures and hopefully some good coverage of some laboratory work we'll witness.

Will try get in as many interviews as possible at both events.

As I write this Transatomic announced (yesterday) they're shutting down. Dr. Leslie Dewan did reply to my request for A/V assets so hopefully in addition to Transatomic research being released to the public, they might help us all communicate better with some video or photos. MSR lab work, I hope.

I'll be bringing a DJI OSMO Mobile 2 with me to Brussels. If you're a video person and want such a thing for use in pro-nuclear communications just ask me for it there. I don't think it is something I'm likely to use having experimented with gimbals with Eric Meyer during Energy Disruptors in Calgary and it just isn't my thing. You don't have to pay for it just be sure to put it to productive use... I will not.

Nuclear Pride

The video above is an iteration of Carbon-Neutral Fuel video created for Generation Atomic.

Eric and I thought we should try add a voice over.

I'm not sure how I feel about it... certainly the visuals timed to music did not willingly accommodate my attempt to narrate. But this is the sort of experimentation we ought to try, and if Eric likes it enough he'll host a narrated copy at Generation Atomic rather than the music-only edit he's got a master of. Anyway, we'll see if this performs better than music-only edits.

Eric's helping to organize a Nuclear Pride event on Oct 20 & 21st in Munich, Germany. Get down there if you can... I can not.
