Ed Pheil captured this himself (while wearing a Clip+ audio recorder), and while the single-camera capture doesn't look spectacular, the audio is clear and that's the most important thing.
This is similar to Ed's TEAC8 presentation, but more recent and at full length. It was given in Vienna on 2018-03-22.
Returned from ORNL MSR Workshop
I'll have much to say in future, but I'll save that for more pertinent footage.
The most important thing I can report is that I was unable to capture the presentations. Not by video. Not photos of slides. My crazy notes which follow are the couple presentations I did try jot down notes from.
I'm no Rod Adams, so I can't say they'll ever be of use to anyone but myself. I intend to try searching for Chinese-text-chunks for matching presentations in English hopefully indexed by various search engines to get the latest slide deck.)
I did a bunch of interviews. Am still importing the footage into Premiere Pro.
Random Notes Day 1 of 2
IMSR 7 year core replacement
Soft spectrum
Large reduction in Pu waste production while avoiding salt processing
Conceptual design completed mid-2016
Avoids edge of Table risk. National labs work on edge
Need basic data, modeling, separate effects tests
Just about to start Phase 2 Vendor Design Review with CNSC.
Early pre-application with NRC
TEI not doing research
How can fed gov help? Continue loan guarantee, long term power purchase agreement, fund USNRC licensing activities. Reduce policy risk. Ensure meaningful public recognition of all reactor tech. Federal sites active partnerships encouraged not just accepted.
Biz intent still commercialized in 2020s.
John Parsons - adv nuke Econ MIT - Future Nuclear in Carbon Constrained World
Adv solve cost prob? Nuke is jewel in box but box expensive. If adv mod box? Design box for adv reactor , if cheaper then solves.
Innovations to fuel cycle are red herring (orthogal to cost). Process heat is niche. Micro reactors niche but unique biz model for financial and innovation.
