Kirk presented at UofT in October, and I've been experimenting with various ways DaVinci Resolve Studio can combine that footage with animations created by Flibe Energy. DaVinci allowed me to put Kirk in the foreground and the animation in the background, using the "Magic Mask" tool.
There's probably a dozen ways to deploy this tool, and I've been experimenting with ORNL MSRW 2023 footage as well.
All the footage I've been using it on is... not great. Nothing terrible about the UofT or ORNL MSRW video, but they're 1080P or worse. They're all (relatively) low-bandwidth video streams. Yet, play around with DaVinci long enough and it can isolate a decent-looking Kirk from the background.
I think this has very interesting potential as potentially applied to my other captures where (for example) sometimes I'd tried to chroma-key but it was often a flawed setup. This could help address everything from imperfect to truly botched chroma-key captures.
