Molten-Salt Research Reactor (MSRR) - Dr. Rusty Towell of ACU @ ORNL MSRW 2020

3 min read

ORNL has provided most of their conference captures, from ORNL MSRW 2020 (mid-October), and here's the first release leveraging those assets!

(I did post Kirk Sorensen's talk but I didn't wait on any ORNL assets or permission for that.)

Dr. Rusty Towell introduces ORNL MSRW attendees to Abilene Christian University's NEXT Lab which has been speaking to NRC about a Molten-Salt Research Reactor (MSRR) in September.

Call to Action for Canadians

I said sign it, not read it! ...ok, fine, read it first.

With enough signatures it will be read in the House of Parliament. I monitor every time "nuclear" is used in Canada's Parliament and usually it is the Green Party complaining about nuclear. Like they don't have anything more important to do.

Is easy & fast. (You'll receive a confirmation email and need to click a confirmation link.)

This is thanks to Conrad Knauer on Twitter who's been monitoring and paying and scraping visuals from satellite imaging services.

He's collecting his assets in a Google Drive...

Just fantastic that he's on top of this. He's also been monitoring SINAP website and alerts us whenever something happens. Feeds it through Google Translate and tweets snippets.

Progressive America starts to "get" Nuclear

I really do wonder, in that amazingly large and wonderful 19% Democratic-Support delta, what those folks saw or heard to change their mind. Is sure wasn't anything I've done, or I'd have more views on YouTube.

But it does illustrate how do-able changing minds is. 2020 is the first Democratic (Party) Platform in 48 years to finally include nuclear power.

And ~30% of Democrats and Republicans still think nuclear contributes to climate change "a lot".

I know not everyone in nuclear-land is excited about Joe Biden having won the election. But there's some extremely simple nuclear communication that's needed. Very simple communication.

Since nuclear is part of Biden's Climate Change platform, and since he seems to be aware it is an ultra-low-carbon technology (otherwise why make SMR part of the platform?)... sooner or later Biden is going to state the obvious regarding nuclear power: That it is a low-carbon source of energy.

Trump never did that. Had 4 years to say it clearly, and he never did.

This video I created in 2017 does not reflect how garbled Trump's original delivery was.

Here's the actual "Energy Dominance" speech:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-unleashing-american-energy-event/

"Low carbon" was a sound-bite I extracted, but the original delivery was all mixed up with his Mexican Wall, and Clean Coal, and the "8 years of hell" they just endured.

Kudos to Trump for some very sound, very sane, nuclear energy policy.

I hope Biden continues it. But ever-so-shittier  policy might be worth a single minute of coherent presidential talk about nuclear power.

Maybe the 19% Progressive support delta was (in part) thanks to Cory Booker and Andrew Yang speaking coherently about nuclear? Imagine what an actual president could achieve, in terms of changing the mind of anti-nuke Dems?

They posted it themselves. Looks like they client-side screen-captured it.
