MSR Reprocessing - Sylvie Delpech @ ThEC2018

1 min read

"Principle and Evaluation of Molten Salt Reactor Reprocessing" was presented by Sylvie Delpech in Brussels, at ThEC2018.

The nuclear fuel reprocessing is a prerequisite for nuclear energy to be a clean and sustainable energy. In-situ injection of helium gas into the fuel leads to extract the gaseous fission products and a part of the noble metals. Batch reprocessing can recover the fissile material and to separate the minor actinides from fission products, involving several chemical steps based on redox and acido-basic properties of the various elements contained in the fuel salt. One challenge is to perform a selective extraction of actinides and lanthanides in spent liquid fuel.

Side conversation - Nuclear Alberta

Anyone think a TEDx asking the question should Alberta pursue nuclear-power is worth pursuing? I couldn't dedicate even 1% the effort needed myself, but I could help line up attendees and participants, and of course assist in video capture.

This is something I'd worried I'd need to do back in 2010s to try get LFTR going. In 2011 Kirk Sorensen attended a TEDx (TEDxYYC) in Calgary and it seems now that Advanced Nuclear (of all varieties) has some momentum... however I do feel like my home province is about to be left behind, and not in a strong economic position given our current dependence on the combustion of hydrocarbons.

I don't mean to pivot from the MSR, the Thorium, and the generic nuclear communications I've been working on. This is something that can probably assist all those given relative low-cost of me operating in Calgary without boarding an international flight. The example of Energy Disruptors is a good one... a crazy shit-show from a nuke perspective, but was on the cusp of being insanely useful.

If you're Canadian, or Albertan, and/or see a need for this (even just for Alberta's sake) then please leave a comment or email me. gordonmcdowell@gmail.com
