Alberta Nuclear Power - Calgary Panel at Energy Disruptors

1 min read

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced his intent to sign the provincial SMR MOU (Small Modular Reactor Memorandum Of Understanding). This would mean Alberta is joining Ontario, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick in examining the role Small Modular Reactors might play in our future energy mix.

I live in Calgary, Alberta.

It has been a deep frustration to me that I'm mostly communicating with Americans about Nuclear Power, and not being able to advance anything in my own province. Here's Alberta greenhouse-gas situation: https://www.electricitymap.org/zone/CA-AB

Most narrative pieces I've created feature interview footage shot in Calgary.

And while me capturing Energy Disruptors in 2018:

And in 2019 (my featured video for this blog post):

...were both frustrating experiences, as there was no obvious impact they could make, as of today, if someone Googling about Alberta or Calgary and Nuclear Power will be finding these videos and little else.

And this is just the very basics that can be culled from ED footage... these 2 videos ONLY feature ED footage, and not the hours of Calgary lectures or Calgary interviews. There's a great deal of Alberta-centric pro-nuclear communication content that can be constructed from what has already been shot!

If you live in Alberta I'd check out https://albertanuclearnucleus.ca/ , https://twitter.com/AlbertaNuclear by Sean Wagner, who I met at Energy Disruptors.

Stand-Up for Nuclear (an upcoming September thing)

Some pro-nuclear folk in Alberta are organizing such an event, in Edmonton and possibly Calgary.

I'm not really skilled at organizing such things (and my free-time is always hit-and-miss now), but I hope to promote and attend anything I can that is organized by others. If you live in Alberta, please consider participating as well.
