Rare Earths - Dr. John J. Croat @ TEAC8

3 min read

Some more TEAC8 videos, this includes a few Rare Earth presentations...

...which I think help bring a lot of credibility to the Jim & John are making. Not that they didn't have a lot of voices in their corner before 2017, but having them speak on camera is a pretty big deal.

"Sellout" (by Victoria Bruce) is a good read, check it out if you haven't already.

Other Presentations @ TEAC8

Not done yet but getting there...

ORNL and Brussels

Trips I have not-yet booked but am presently hoping to do:

Molten Salt Reactor Workshop at ORNL, Oct 3 & 4, 2018.

Thorium Energy Conference in Brussels, Oct 29-31, 2018.

Me attending ORNL isn't just whether I can personally attend, but whether I'm invited to attend. I did ask, and will see what they say.

Me visiting Brussels is a little more under my own control, but I'm hoping to be "a video guy" in a coordinated manner with Andreas Norlin so I'm not duplicating efforts like at CERN in 2013.

Please let me know if you can make it to Brussels. Believe Myriam Tonelotto will be attending. Her "Thorium: The Far Side of Nuclear" ...

...oh HEY it is back up for public viewing with English subtitles!

Syd Ball has seen a new English-audio edit. He says it is even an even better edit than the subtitled one. I imagine Myriam is working to find a North American distributor for that... anyway try attend TEC 2018 in Brussels if you can.

I intend to be there. If anyone I know here is also going would be helpful to enlist volunteers willing to do stuff like monitor extra-angle cameras. Or tap me on the shoulder should a live feed (if I do a live feed) goes down.

Here's some of the 2013 moments we captured at CERN for the last TEC (iThEO?!?) conference I attended. Oh good times.

Sabertooth X79 vs Windows 10

I know nobody really cares about videos, all you want to hear about is my motherboard not working, so here's the exciting stuff...

This month, a Windows 10 update fubar-ed my PC. Unable to boot from Win10 any more, I tried moving the C drive to different SATA ports.

That would be abandoning the use-this-one-for-your-C-drive SATA port I'd been using all along. (The one recommended for C back in the Win7 days because it supported hybrid-drive style SSD cache.)

And... it booted. And... many problems have magically gone away.

I'd known Win10 updates had killed the hybrid-drive feature long ago, but I didn't think they also made that SATA port unsuitable for C.

Long story short: PC has fewer issues. New GPU still great. If you have the means to replace a 2012 GPU with a 2018 GPU, I really recommend it.
