Objectives:
- Understanding the transient and steady state evolution of chemical species and isotopic composition in the molten salt
- Estimates of the quantities, species, and forms of radioactive materials that may be released from MSRs as the result of accidents
- Physics models required for robust element evolution
- Evolution of isotopes from nuclear reactions
- Transport of species due to physical and chemical mass transfer
- Database for relevant transport/chemical properties
- Multi-scale multi-physics computations
Challenges remaining in modeling multi-species, multi-phase species transport in MSs, although codes exist to model MSR neutron transport, thermal hydraulics, structural materials, species transport, etc.
SAM to provide the system-level thermal fluids modeling capabilities with PKE.
Mole, to focus on source terms for chemical and isotopic evolution.
Initial focus on SAM/Mole integration to provide system-level thermal fluids mass transport modeling capabilities in MSR.
The scope will be extended to multi-scale, multi-physics mass accountancy modeling in MSR.
Spectroelectrochemical Characterization of Uranium & Plutonium Chloride & Fluoride Molten Salt Fuel Systems - Hannah Patenaude
Brought to my attention by AchalHP via Twitter.
I had nothing to do with Hannah's video. It just seems interesting.
