Cleaning up TR2016 p02 subjects "History", "Dowtherm" and "Salt". It ends abruptly, which is when I've stopped my clean-up.
The next subject is "Pebbles" and can be seen by jumping into complete update I posted previously.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7IBSCXZIZg ...which is less cleaned-up and harder to watch.
Problems Solved / Maybe-Solved
Mostly just man-hours to clean up the visuals and normalize audio. But a couple technical notes regarding editing / rendering / uploading.
Problem #1 - Abandoned Plug-In
Since 2013 was experiencing grief from a video plug-in I tested and abandoned, but was still being used somewhere in the project. So every single time I opened the project... and it is very frequent when PPro is feeling crashy... the 20-minute process of loading the project would be stopped in the middle with a message like this...
"Plug-in XYZ can not be found. Click OK to continue."
...after 10 minutes. So recovering from a crash was more likely to waste time as I returned to the computer after re-loading to find it waiting on that OK click. (10m+10m=20m only when you click right at the 10m mark.)
Well I finally found where I was using the plug-in, and deleted it.
"Great story Gord."
Yeah, well, not a lot to tell. Normalizing audio and inserting b-roll is pretty boring.
Problem #2 - PPro H.264 (MP4) Renders vs YouTube
YouTube does NOT like long PPro H.264 renders. Which is odd because that is pretty much the codec everyone uses when creating YouTube content. There's not a lot of other options... WMV is an alternative but audio/video falls out of sync for very long uploads too. The dozen export options for PPro are mostly pertaining to proprietary camera formats.
This was never a problem before 2016. Then Adobe updated PPro. Google constantly updates YouTube. Dunno who to blame. But apparently creating long-form content for YouTube is not a popular reason to edit in PPro. (Others have posted to Adobe forums but there's no ground-swell of anger.)
I've found that WebM is an alternative codec that appears to work. This video update was rendered in WebM... will it work with 4h videos? If so then that really annoying problem is also solved.
WebM is not a codec included in PPro, but was made available as a free (and open-source) PPro plug-in that adds WebM to PPro as an export option.

So YouTube takes this, and transcodes it to H.264 for everyone to watch. YouTube transcodes everything... that I supply WebM instead of H.264 doesn't matter. But hopefully this will solve the render-and-re-render process I've been going thru since start of 2016.
PPro crashes waste less time. Rendering these screener previews (may) take fewer steps. Yay.
